Bakery Assistant

We are a small, dedicated bakery known for made-from-scratch cakes, cookies, and pastries. Everything is made with care and intention, and we are looking for someone who wants to be part of that process. This is a back-of-house production role in a private kitchen setting, which means no storefront, no customer interaction, and a focused, creative environment where the work itself is the center of attention.

What You Will Be Doing

This position supports the baker across daily production, including:

  • Mixing batters and preparing cakes for baking, wrapping, and storage

  • Making buttercreams, filling and stacking cakes, and applying crumb coats

  • Prepping cookie doughs, brownies, lemon bars, mini cheesecakes, and mini pies from scratch

  • Assisting with cookie decorating class prep two days a week

  • Keeping the kitchen clean, organized, and running smoothly throughout every shift

The Details

  • Schedule: Flexible, part-time up to 25 hours per week

  • We work Tuesday-Saturday. Tuesday-Thursday is our main baking days.

  • Pay: $17.50–$25.00/hour, depending on experience, demonstrated skills, and placement within Sugar Lab's Production Career Path. We use a transparent skill-based pay scale, so raises are earned through mastering new skills and responsibilities—not just time on the job

  • Location: 4160 Market Street, Ventura, CA 93003

  • This is a part-time position with the potential to grow into full-time.

Wedding Delivery Team Member

We are looking for someone we can trust to help get our cakes safely from our kitchen to some pretty beautiful celebrations. This is an independent, on-the-go position with a schedule that varies based on our wedding calendar. You’ll represent Sugar Lab at wedding venues throughout Ventura County and surrounding areas, so reliability, good judgment, and attention to detail are incredibly important.

What You Will Be Doing

This position supports our wedding and event deliveries, including:

  • Safely transporting tiered cakes, cupcakes, & desserts to wedding venues

  • Setting up wedding cakes and dessert displays according to provided instructions

  • Handling unexpected situations such as traffic, parking, venue access, or setup changes calmly and professionally

  • Keeping delivery supplies and equipment clean and organized

The Details

  • Schedule: Part-time/on-call, primarily Thursday–Sunday afternoons. Hours vary from week to week based on our wedding schedule.

  • Pay: $19-$22/hour, plus mileage reimbursement, based on experience and demonstrated delivery/setup skills. Opportunities for pay increases are available as you become trained in more advanced deliveries and setups.

  • Location: All deliveries begin at Sugar Lab Cake Studio in Ventura, CA.

  • Delivery Area: Primarily Ventura County, with occasional deliveries to South Santa Barbara County, Malibu, and surrounding areas.

  • Vehicle: Must have reliable access to a crossover SUV, SUV, or van with a flat cargo area. Sedans are not suitable for this position. Vehicle must have functioning air conditioning.

  • Physical Requirements: Must be comfortable safely lifting and carrying up to 40–50 lbs.

  • Additional Hours: There may be opportunities for additional hours assisting with bakery operations depending on interest, availability, and experience.
